All About Selene

Where was your character born?

Who raised him?
Selene Hokmah was by her father until she was eight years old, her mother dying in chidlbirth, when her natural apptitude with magic gave her the option of becoming a novice at the temple of Baccobb. She was raised by the high priest of the temple and her father, who was often on quests as he was a minor patron of the city. His father died when she was eleven years old, campaigning against pirates on the coastal region.
Selene become more and more advanced in the temple, and had minor connections through her late father as a former patron. When she was sixteen she took the test of Citizenship, and became a Citizen. On her eighteenth year, she apprenticed herself to the son of a major council member, Alexander Lutharo.
Alexander was unique in tha the was well liked and well respected by many in the city, though he was not a citizen. He garnered a tremendous ammount of support of independent members of the city who had not yet become citizens and his support for the elven community as the acting elven diplomat was a large draw to him for her.

What was happening in the region when your character was growing up?
Tharovace was expanding its military tentacles to the northlands. Council members were divided on organizing powerful attacks against the swamp and the dragon itself, as opposed to more realistic plans of defending the coastland and making furrows to the northlands.
Anyone suggesting ‘going after the dragon’ was clearly using that idea as a soapbox for political grandstanding. No council member who supported invading the swamps realistically expected the Duke to approve of such and action, but it made for wonderful speeches and drew a tremendous ammount of support from the more militarilly fanatical citizens.
Gauis Lutharo suggested going into the swamp directly, demanding such an attack, but his son openly opposed him. Alexander consistentally argued for increasing support to caravans to the dwarven nations and to Ruddicks Pass, and encouraged the expansion of minor fiefdoms to the northlands, asking for minor knights or lords to create fortified lands and expand the cities control to the north, widely criticized by many citizens as it took valuable support from the city propper.
It was these ideas and others that drew Selene to him, mainly because she found Alexander’s ideas unique and valuable, and extremely different then the usual citizen.
