Lolth is the patron deitess of the Drow, having first spread evil among the surface elves causing their rift. She rules them with a combination of fear and the promise of power, maintaining chaos in the Underdark as a means of assuring her total control (it should also be noted that she does this for her own enjoyment as well). She teaches her followers to be constantly alert for a chance to gain while being aware of opportunities they give others to gain. She has a hatred of the surface elves that is mirrored by all Drow.
Clerics to Lolth are always female and are in every noble Drow household. They maintain a strict hierarchy based upon age within the house, and the power of each house within the Drow community. These clerics rule the Drow cities, absolutely, in her name. Temples to Lolth can be found in every Drow city, with shrines in every Drow household.
The clergy of Lolth rules the Underdark in all areas under Drow control. Her clergy have little influence on the surface, but are welcome in most Ravanese cities.
